Overview

El Tarasco stands as a beacon of authentic Mexican cuisine in Marina Del Rey, offering a vibrant taste of tradition just steps away from the California coastline. Nestled at 109 Washington Blvd, this modest yet lively spot welcomes locals and visitors alike who seek genuine flavors and a warm, unpretentious atmosphere. The restaurant captures the essence of Mexican street food with a menu rich in classic dishes that celebrate regional favorites and fresh ingredients.

The highlight here is without question the Jr Super Deluxe Burrito and theCarnitas Tostada, both praised for their bold flavors and careful preparation. Carnitas, lauded by many, including local food enthusiasts, is served tender and juicy, capturing the heart of true Mexican cooking. The Burrito Special and Carne Asada Plate further reinforce El Tarasco’s dedication to hearty, satisfying meals complete with homemade rice and beans—crafted with care, often using white beans instead of the more traditional manteca-based style, appealing to those seeking both authenticity and a lighter touch.

Seafood lovers will find the Camarones a La Diabla and the Camaron Ceviche exceptional, with the Michelada De Camaron standing out as a refreshing adult beverage crafted to complement the spicy profile of these dishes. Their seafood offerings bring a coastal vibe that mirrors the proximity to Marina Del Rey’s waters, seamlessly blending surf and turf on one plate.

The dining experience at El Tarasco strikes a beautiful balance between casual and inviting. While it may not boast upscale decor, it thrives on its fast, friendly service and a welcoming, hammock-like environment where patrons feel at home. Guests frequently praise the staff’s warmth and attentiveness, adding to the relaxed pace allowing visitors to savor both food and company. The option to order and pay at the counter reinforces the informal, no-fuss approach that encourages patrons to focus on what matters most—the food.

Targeting a diverse audience—from beachgoers craving a post-swim meal to Mexican food aficionados searching for authentic regional flair—El Tarasco delivers consistently. The menu covers everything from classic tacos and enchiladas verdes to lesser-known traditional items like Menudo Soup and Tamale Rice & Beans, ensuring there’s something for every palate. The competitive pricing paired with generous portions makes it accessible for families, young professionals, and anyone looking to indulge in honest flavors without pretense.

In summary, El Tarasco is not just a dining destination but a cultural experience—a slice of Mexico brought to the Southern California coast. Its authenticity, combined with its prime Marina Del Rey location and amiable atmosphere, make it a must-visit for those eager to enjoy rich, handcrafted Mexican dishes in a casual setting that feels like a neighborhood gem.

Simply the best, most authentic, Mexican food in the entire southern part of California. Yes of course Venice is nice and so is the atmosphere, but you must stop here to have the best Carnitas dish ever.

Francisco was our server and made our meal so special. Honestly it’s better if you just go up and order at the counter and pay at the counter, it’s very chill. The food is amazing, the Camaron ceviche is great and the fish soup is so good too! Rice and beans are made with white beans but they’re so good also. It’s not fancy but everyone is happy you’re there and good to chat to. The michelada with camaron was AMAZING. so good.

Everything was so good that I’m looking forward to coming back to LA. The lady working there was super friendly and helpful. The food is authentic Mexican food, I will never forget how flavourful those tacos are.

The beans are without Manteca, that's why I ordered bean burrito, it was great. With guacamole and raw onion... Nice staff. Fast and efficient.

Don't sleep on this restaurant! Food was made to perfection! Very cozy atmosphere with polite staff. Food is great, pricing is more than fair and you are also only within walking distance from the beach. I wish I'd known about this place sooner. I will plan to be back.

3.5/10 Menu is a bit confusing, service is fast, food is pretty affordable. The best thing here is the complimentary chips and salsa they give in the beginning. The wet burrito doesn’t use real guacamole which is disappointing. And the rice inside is mushy and wet, and the chicken is under seasoned and dry. But it’s also not the worst I’ve ever had.
